The opening scene of Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End.
When we watch the opening sequence of World's End we can see that an huge scale of crimes have taken place from the large line of people trailing from the stand. From this we are tolf=d that this film be an action, adventure film. Not only this but when we look at the people being hung, we can see that it is only the pirates that are the ones being hung, which makes them look like the good guys of the film and that they are being unfairly trialed. This means that the writers are almost turning the situation inside out as they are making it out to seem like the bad guys are actually the good guys and are being made the victims unfairly..
Further in the opening scene, we can see that a little child that is being punished for being associated to piracy. The starts to sing a rhyme which then everyone else starts to sing, making it out that they are rebelling and going against the trial they deem to be unfair. However when we see children, people automatically think that they're innocent and can't do much wrong which makes us believe its more like child slavery and that he is singing away his sorrows and looking for freedom. Furthermore it makes us as the audience want to side with the pirates, even if they have done wrong, because we feel as if there trial is unfair and that they are being mistreated in this environment.
The non-diegetic music used in the opening scene is used very well as the music adds to the tension because we feel the emotion of the trialed through every note of the music. This is used for effect as this adds to the tension that is building in the opening scene, this is because as there are hangings occurring in the opening scene. The scene quite depressing and tense so therefore the dark music adds to that to create a nervous feeling within the audience.
